Principal and Practice Manager
David joined Haille Paine in September 2017. He is the Practice Manager and a Principal of Haille Paine, together with Rohan McAlpine.
David brings a wealth of experience from 17 years working in Sydney law firms, including Hicksons Lawyers, and 10 years as a sole practitioner in the Southern Highlands as principal of David Allen Legal. He specialises in employment law – including contracts, employee management and unfair dismissal disputes – as well as insurance law, acting for insurers. His other areas include education law, property law, wills and estates.
David is the President of the Berrima District Law Society and is a member of the Highlands Business Circle and the Southern Highlands Chamber of Commerce & amp; Industry. He is an honorary director of the Southern Highlands Foundation, which promotes and supports charitable causes in the area.
Away from the office, David is a regular soloist in sacred music productions at St Jude’s Anglican Church in Bowral. He is involved in many community non-for-profit organisations including the Bowral Autumn Music Festival and the Mandemar Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade. David and his wife Tina enjoy living on their farm near Berrima where they have an olive grove and a small herd of black Angus cattle.
Rohan joined Haille Paine Solicitors in 2014 and since September 2017 has been a Principal of Haille Paine. Rohan enjoys the private client work at Haille Paine and brings to the practice a wealth of knowledge and experience in a broad range of legal areas including commercial law, property law, deceased estates and estate planning.
In 2010, Rohan made a successful tree change with his wife Lara from Sydney to the Southern Highlands. Prior to that he had worked in a variety of boutique and corporate law firms in Sydney and London.
After growing up in rural NSW, Rohan is enjoying working and bringing up his young family in the Southern Highlands, where he is actively involved in the local community. Outside of work, he can be found running around the soccer field or in the garden with his kids.
Kerrie is an Associate at Haille Paine and specialises in Deceased Estates and Estate Planning Law. She has worked at Haille Paine since 2014. She has practised in many areas of law during her time as a solicitor and the seven years she worked as a paralegal. Kerrie now works almost exclusively in the areas of estate planning, probate and estate administration, and family provision. She is also the Secretary of the Berrima District Law Society.
Kerrie grew up in the Southern Highlands and enjoys the variety of legal work in a regional practice. She provides an empathetic and reassuring approach to clients at times of difficulty, such as after the loss of a loved one.
Outside of work, Kerrie attends local women’s networking groups and is involved in helping the community, including a women’s shelter. She enjoys camping, photography and exploring the natural wonders of the area.
The legal practice was founded in 1879 by Charles Gale, who was later joined by Bennington Haille Paine. In 1927 Bennington Paine was joined by his son, Haille Hands Paine. In keeping with family tradition, his grandson Haille Scott Smith became a principal partner in 1954 until his retirement in 2000.
The practice had an office in Moss Vale and opened a second office in Bowral in Wingecarribee Street. As Haille Paine expanded, the Wingecarribee Street office became too small and the practice relocated to a heritage cottage, ‘Merrigang’, at 22 Merrigang Street, Bowral. The Moss Vale office eventually closed so all the staff could work under one roof.
Peter Fleming joined Haille Paine in 1969 and became the principal in 2000. Peter’s daughter, Penelope joined the practice in 2007 and her husband, Scott Leary in 2008. After 45 years with the practice, Peter Fleming retired in 2013 and Scott became the principal. Scott, Penelope and their three children moved to the New England in 2017 so Penelope could further her studies and Scott permanently relocated his practice to Armidale in late 2018.
Haille Paine is trusted and well-respected in the Southern Highlands. The practice has two principals: Rohan McAlpine and David Allen, who is also the practice manager. Rohan McAlpine joined the practice in 2014 and David Allen in 2017 when David Allen Legal merged with Haille Paine Solicitors. Kerrie Allman-Hore joined the practice as a legal clerk in 2014 and has worked as a solicitor since qualifying in July 2016. In mid-2018 Kerrie was made an Associate.
The year 2019 marks the 140th anniversary of the practice; making it one of first to be established in the Southern Highlands. The principals and staff of Haille Paine are excited about the practice’s next chapter and continuing to serve the community in their new premises in Bowral CBD at 18 Station Street, Bowral.
